Summer Nights by the Water

Sweater [MAJOR sale!]|| Jeans [sized up two for this fit] || Cami [sale!] || Sandals , similar || Sunglasses || Necklace

I love a good warm day spent in the sun, but I also LOVE a good summer night.  After the temperature drops a little and you can sit around in a lightweight sweater and sip wine…that’s the best!

This is the perfect outfit for that!  You all HAVE to grab this sweater. I wore it last week in the evening–we took a pizza and some wine down for a  boat ride to celebrate my dad’s birthday–and I have worn it twice already to work since.  So handy!   I layered this casual tank under during the day and this cami under it at night. [wearing a small & it gives an oversized and slouchy fit]

Oh, and I definitely have to mention these pearl sandals.  They’re new and I am in love.  I was obsessed with the Chanel pearl slides when I saw them but I knew they were out of my price range, so I was about to buy these.  But, then I found the ones that I am wearing here and decided to give them a try first.  Honestly, I expected the quality to be poor but it’s surprisingly great!  I’ve already worn them a bunch and get compliments on them every time.  [Be sure to size up one]

With this week being split up by the 4th, we’re trying to squeeze a few things around the house before the weekend hits again.  So it’s laundry and organizing time around here!  Fun right, haha?  I am switching up my closet/office room a bit so I actually am excited about that.  Stay tuned because I will share the finished results… & in the meantime, you can see the closet video tour we did a while back here.  It’s going to change quite a bit and I can’t wait!

HAPPY FRIYAY EVE! Muah!

Nordstrom Anniversary Sale 2017: Sneak Peek!

Ok, not going to lie–silly as it may be, I clapped my hands and smiled when I saw this email come across my phone this week.  A catalog with a sneak peek into the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale!

You can flip through for yourself here!

(hint:  you can click on the items to see the price and other color options)

Last year was the first time I shopped the sale.  I was skeptical, but I heard so many people rave about it so I figured I would invest the time and money and give it a shot.  And omg, I am SO glad I did.

If you aren’t familiar, the sale (which you will see referred to as #nsale on social media) will feature tons of great items that are brand new.  Usually retailers roll out their new items for the season at full price and as items start to sell and only select sizes are left, you begin to see them get discounted.  However, the beauty of this sale is that the new items start out on sale.  [We’re talking heavily discounted too!]  So you have a chance to scoop up some key items for the Fall and Winter ahead.  Then… they go back to full price.

This year the sale runs from July 23rd – August 6th.

&& if you have a Nordstrom card then you can shop this sale EARLY, starting on July 13th.

I decided to get a Nordstrom card at this time last year.  I wrote a really honest post all about the sale and my decision that you can read here.  It did make a huge difference to be able to shop the sale early too because the best items sell really fast.  I was shocked!  Now, during the course of the sale some do get restocked.  But seeing the size and color you want pop back up can be a gamble.

I have used the card all throughout the year and I love having Nordstrom notes to spend because of it.  (Every dollar you spend on the card earns you points that eventually get you a $20 coupon that you can apply at checkout.)  Click here for all the details!

Stay tuned because I am going to share my strategy this year for shopping the sale soon!  In the meantime, you can check out my posts detailing what I bought last year by clicking here and here!

A few of the items that I 100% have my eye on already!  I couldn’t help but share!

So, moral of the story?  Mark your calendars! 🙂

4th of July Outfit Inspiration

Since we just had the first official weekend of Summer [yayyy],  I figure we can celebrate with this outfit I wore to brunch when we were in NYC because this white ruffle top and these red earrings would be the perfect combo for the 4th of July!

I have already worn this top too many times to count.  I love the way the crisp white pairs with a tan (real or faux like mine, haha) and the one shoulder makes it just a tad different.  You could pair it with navy or denim and it would be perfect for the holiday.  Shorts or a skirt in either one would be so cute.

Since sizes are limited in my top, I found two very similar options!  Shop them here (on major sale) and here (comes in lots of colors too).

These earrings are the perfect way to add a fun pop to your outfit.  They weigh practically nothing which is KEY when looking for a big earring!  They can be worn with a dressy or casual outfit (even a bathing suit!) so they will pair well with whatever plans you have in store.  BONUS: They come with free 2-day shipping so they will arrive in time!  If you’re looking for a slightly smaller pair then you could give these a try!

A couple more fun items that would be great to work into your 4th of July weekend:

At first I was bummed about the 4th being on a Tuesday.  I will have to work on Monday and Wednesday so…that kinda stinks.  But, I’ve decided to look at the bright side this week.  After all, it is still a holiday.  And I have a strict policy about celebrating any and all holidays!  Why not?!  Plus, it will be a nice way to break up the M-F week!

Oh, and ps–I sized up two sizes in these jeans to get this fit.  They are my very favorite pair right now too.  LOVE!

How to Complete an Outfit: Statement Belt

Don’t get me wrong, I love an easy summer outfit BUT at times I find myself thinking they can seem a bit unfinished.  It’s easy in the cooler months when you can layer with a jacket or add a scarf or hat.  It gives the outfit a bit of dimension and makes it seem balanced and complete.  I think the answer to this in the warmer temps is a belt.  Belts come and go as far as fashion trends but they are definitely in right now.  Statement belts are having such a moment and I am certainly not complaining about it!  This western belt has been a staple for me.  I wear it ALL.  THE.  TIME!  I just love how it can pull an outfit together. [wearing a small]

Last weekend I had it on with jeans, a tee and red heels for a Friday night out with friends downtown and I pair it with distressed denim shorts for a daytime look often too.  [wearing a small]

I have my eye on this one too.  I love it!  && I am dying over the stars on this one!

Oh, and I know this off the shoulder top is just a plain black knit and nothing special really but it has served me well!  I have ended up needing it with so many outfits.  It’s only $25 so grab one.   It’ll come in handy! …and now that I think about it, I should definitely grab one in white.  Going to order that today! [wearing a xs]

We took these pics on the cobblestone streets in Soho.  Soho will forever be one of my favorite areas to be during the day in NYC.  I love the shopping (even if it is often just window shopping) and the fact that there’s so many great coffee shops, restaurants and little bars for a cocktail.  It’s where you will find many of the trendy well known spots and it’s also where you will run into a new little gem during each trip.  Ethan and I found a great little bar with a rosé happy hour that we stopped into!

Happy Friday, loves!  Ethan and I are headed to a patio party later tonight and I am looking forward to a glass of wine and the feeling of the weekend. Hope you all have a good one!

Travel Diary: Sunrise at the Brooklyn Bridge

One of my favorite things to do on vacation used to be sleeping.  I soooo looked forward to napping and sleeping in.  However, I guess I’m getting older because now I like to get up as early as we can when traveling so we can squeeze as much as possible into the day.

We were recently in NYC (full recap coming soon) and one thing we knew we wanted to do was walk across the Brooklyn Bridge.  It is the most famous bridge in the city, linking lower Manhattan to Brooklyn over the East River.  We’ve planned to do this so many times and we never seem to make it happen.  The weather gets in the way or we run short on time.  So this time around we made sure to do it.  && then we figured we should try and go early in order to beat the crowds so we could snap a few photos (it can get pretty packed).  Well –  we ended up taking it a step further and got there early enough to watch the sunrise–and I am so glad we did.  If you ever get the chance to walk across the bridge at sunrise TAKE IT!  You won’t regret missing out on that extra little bit of sleep afterwards!

We googled the exact time that the sun would rise and then planned to grab an Uber from our hotel in enough time to arrive right before hand.  That put us leaving our hotel about 4:50am and asked the driver to take us over to Washington Street in DUMBO (Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass).  We climbed up a set of steps located on the underpass where the bridge crosses over Washington Street.  They lead you straight up to the pedestrian walkway.  (This is a couple blocks from Front Street.)  Once you are on the bridge, the views heading towards Manhattan are incredible and super iconic.  We were pretty much the only people there at this time too!  We did see a couple, dressed in a wedding gown and tux heading up the bridge with their photographer as we were making our way across!

The only downfall to this plan?  It was still so early when we got back to the Manhattan side of the bridge that the coffee shops weren’t even open yet, ha!

Of course, you could always make the trek the opposite direction–begin in Manhattan and walk towards Brooklyn.  I would do this if you wanted to spend some time in DUMBO after.  On one of our previous trips to the city, we got coffee at Brooklyn Roasting Company and wandered around the Brooklyn Bridge Park.  It’s such a neat area (this is where the super cute and famous Jane’s Carousel can be found) and the views of Manhattan across the water are hard to beat!  And there’s no way you can be there without making sure you take the famous picture from Washington Street of the bridge towering over the the East River and the Empire State Building.  See our full post from that spot–> here!

ps, being in a city as old and charming as NYC will force you to think about the history.  I found this article super interesting.  Give it a read for a few interesting [and disturbing] facts about the Brooklyn Bridge.  && be sure to let me know if you incorporate a walk across the bridge into your trip!  I hope this was helpful if you’re planning some time in the city soon!

Outfit details can be found below!  My denim dress is a great one for Summer and I know I’ll be repeating it again soon.  Would be perfect for a July 4th party with some red!  I ordered this Gucci belt quite a while ago and it will hopefully be here soon–I can’t wait to switch out the denim belt on this dress and wear them together.  FYI, the dress does run big.  I ordered an xs and ended up exchanging it for an xxs.
